A clearer plan.
A more rewarding garden.

01 / THE IDEA

You don’t need another trick.
You need a plan you can use.

A video gives you an idea. Then you’re back in the garden, wondering when to repeat it, what to check, and what to try if it doesn’t work.

The almanac puts the next steps on the page: what to do, how to judge the result, and where to go from there.

WHEN ADVICE IS SCATTERED
  • Trying a new remedy whenever damage appears
  • Sowing more than the kitchen can use
  • Buying supplies before finding the cause
  • Forgetting what worked last season
WITH A PRACTICAL REFERENCE
  • Identify the problem and choose a measured response
  • Plan small batches around meals you actually eat
  • Spend on the missing piece, not another guess
  • Keep a record you can use next year

A clearer routine, rather than a promise of perfect plants or fixed savings.

Bert, the white-bearded gardening character, at the allotment

04 / THE SPIRIT OF BERT

Good sense.
Dirty hands.
A little patience.

The almanac brings the warmth of Bert’s videos into a reference you can return to — with the detail that a short video cannot hold.

Traditional ideas are treated with care. Where a popular remedy has weak evidence, the book says so. The aim is a useful garden, not a collection of impressive-sounding promises.

Bert Hargreaves is a fictional gardening character, shown in AI-generated imagery. The book includes source links; the character is not a claim of personal trials or professional qualifications.

07 / BEFORE YOU DECIDE

A few sensible
questions.

Know what the book offers, and whether it fits your garden.

Do I need an allotment or a large garden?

No. The book includes container growing, a three-crop starter plan and advice on choosing a manageable space. Some projects need more room, so select what suits your home.

Is it suitable for beginners?

Yes. Start with the first-weekend guide and the 30-day plan. The field guides explain an action, how to assess it and common mistakes to avoid. Experienced growers can use it as a seasonal reference.

Is this the same as watching Bert’s videos?

The almanac is a written reference: follow-up routines, calculations, recipes, monthly plans and printable records that you can return to without searching through videos.

Will the advice work outside Britain?

Many principles travel, but planting dates, climate, varieties and local requirements differ. The book is written in British English for British growing conditions. Adapt the calendar to your location.

Is it a physical book?

No. This is a 120-page PDF. Open it with a PDF reader on a phone, tablet or computer, and print selected pages for personal household use. The book-style presentation illustrates the digital cover; no physical book is shipped.

Does it promise a pest-free garden or a fixed saving?

No. Results depend on conditions and how you apply the advice. The book helps you reduce avoidable losses, plan useful crops and record purchases genuinely avoided, without treating every harvest as guaranteed profit.

What about recipes and storage?

The 16 recipes include ingredients, methods, allergen notes and storage guidance. They are editorial recipes, not claims of kitchen-tested results. Fresh and freezer recipes should not be treated as shelf-stable canning instructions.

Can I see it before buying?

Yes. Open the six real sample pages above to judge the writing, layout and practical detail for yourself.
